School Cricket
Working with our partners at Chance to Shine and Sport England, BCB seeks to give every schoolchild in Bucks the opportunity to experience a quality introduction to the game of cricket

We deliver and coordinate a range of activities in schools aimed at increasing participation at all ages and abilities. For some years, we have provided coaching in Primary schools under the Chance to Shine banner which grows year by year . In addition to in-school and after-school coaching, the programme provides for teacher training and allows children to participate in competitive cricket. Many schools take the opportunity to participate in local Kwik Cricket festivals which lead on to regional and national rounds for the lucky winners.
This also supports migration of youngsters from schools into local clubs and enables them to further their development and provides clubs with a source of new members, boosting the number of boys and girls in their junior sections.

Sport England funding now allows us to extend our coaching programme to Secondary schools in Bucks. This new project seeks to address the drop in participation during the early/mid teens and to re-introduce cricket in schools which no longer include it in their curriculum. In addition:

  • The Bucks Schools Cricket Association has run inter-schools cricket for many years and it is hoped that the above initiatives will lead to more schools entering their competitions.

  • The Lady Taverners competition also offers indoor competitive cricket for girls.

  • Independent Schools: Bucks is fortunate to have a thriving independent sector and several of these schools supply a number of children to our County squads as well as contributing to the pool of high quality match and practice facilities in the County.

Our young people represent the future of our game and we want as many of them as possible to have the opportunity to participate and remain in cricket throughout their lives. At the outset, it is vital that we give every schoolchild in Bucks a chance to experience, enjoy and appreciate the best of our wonderful game.
