Player Pathway

Head Coach Rich Hudson
BCB provides a structured player pathway which enables our talented young cricketers in Bucks to achieve their full potential.

County Cricket within Bucks starts at U10 (boys) and from this small acorn a large oak tree grows, spreading its branches to take into account the development of both boys and girls through all the age groups.

We work closely with Bucks County Cricket Club to ensure that our best players have the opportunity to progress to the Bucks Academy side and on to the full Minor Counties XI. We also work with neighbouring First Class Counties to provide a structured transition to First Class Academies for those players who show the highest potential; Tom Helm who is currently under contract at Middlesex and Alex Hales of Nottinghamshire and England are both successful products of the Bucks pathway.

Each year clubs and schools within Bucks are asked to nominate their talented young cricketers for our development programmes. This procedure starts during August & September. During November and December trials are held and players deemed to have the ability and attitude to benefit for one of our programmes are allocated to a Girls’ Squad, Boys’ Development Squad, or a Boys’ Winter Coaching Group. Early season trial matches take place in April and May before final County Squads are selected.

Throughout the summer months there are over 100 representative games, including ECB Competitions at U14, U15 and U17 along with Festivals and Tours. Our Girls' Squads play competitive fixtures at each age of U11, U13, U15 & U17. In past years, our Boys’ teams were extremely successful, with the U12s winning the Ipswich Festival, the U16s winning the Jersey Festival and the U15s reaching the ECB National Finals for the first time.
